Superman – Model Unit Clapperboard

A model unit clapperboard from the production of Richard Donner’s superhero film Superman. This wooden clapperboard features the film’s title at the top, and “2A Model Unit” handwritten on tape next to it. The director is listed as Brian Smithies and the cameraman is Les Dear. Smithies later worked on David Lynch’s Dune and James Cameron’s Aliens, and was the modeller head of department on Bond movie GoldenEye. The clapperboard is dated “25-8-78” and some numbers are written in chalk on the front, although they are partially rubbed out. The back has “Test with Anamorphic” written clearly in chalk and what appears to be the word “Magnifier” below, although this is faded. The board has some chips to the wood and the metal hinge is rusted.
