Superman – Metropolis licence plate

An original licence plate used in the production of Superman, the 1978 superhero classic starring Christopher Reeve in the title role.

This licence plate was custom made by the production and used on one of the vehicles in Superman’s home city of Metropolis. Constructed from hardboard which has been hand painted green with the identification number ‘8728’ and ‘METROPOLIS’ underneath in white shadowed text, the plate also features a border which is again fully hand painted.

The licence plate measures approximately 12″ x 6″ and remains in excellent production used condition with some light edge and paint wear with a small hole to the top centre. This plate originates from the collection of noted special effects artist Derek Meddings who retained it as a memento after filming.

A rare and highly displayable artefact from this Academy Award winning picture which remains an influential favourite of the superhero genre.
